FTEC Laptop – SUCK

My friend, who bought a FTEC laptop 2 months ago, right after he bought the laptop, the screen screwed up. Yes.. Right after mean after he took out from the box and power on.

So, he went to change a new one and plan to resell online. After the changed, he never open up from the box, until yesterday.. He decided not to sell because can’t get a good buyer, and today.. What happened? New model, out from the box, the screen screwed up again!

LoL.. FTEC, Amber Chia endorse, oh yaa.. My friend bought the laptop because of Amber Chia is FTEC endorsee, he love Amber Chia… then now his wallet screwed up 😛

FTEC also awarded Malaysia Super Brand product.. Haha.. I think Malaysia Super Brand council has to reconsider the award, else I am wondering how the Super Brand Council measure the so called _Super Brand_ products.

If you ever think of buy FTEC laptops/products, please think twice before you throw the money. I recommend you buy IBM/Powerbook/iBook! 😛 I do recommend my friend that, but he is so in love with Amber..

Ok guys, its been a while since this blog has been up.

The bottomline is I never managed to send my laptop back to Ftec. I didn’t get ANOTHER new laptop.

But I patched EVERYTHING – graphic card driver, XP, bios – everything I could think off and more!

It didn’t help. I deactivated SPEED STEP, and lo-and-behold – It hasn’t crashed for more than a month.

So far XP has NEVER CRASHED on me. Apps crashing is nothing new to me lah.

But I have a 3 year warranty. Not scared. MUAHAHAAJ

But I Do have to backup everything.

I didn’t know Ftec laptop is so screwed up. That reminds me of my cousin’s wife. Just bought the Ftec laptop during the last PC fair in KL. I heard she got problem with her laptop within 2 weeks. Couldn’t remember what was the exact problem.

For people in Kuching, I recommend they buy laptops from either Acer or HP… maybe Sony. These vendors got service stations in Kuching.

Better to get an internationally recognized brand. Might be more expensive even though got the same specs, but its damn worth it if you need reliability. I bought a HP. If HP is used by administrative depts. in the USA, then you should know whats best lah.

mmm…….i was wondering about buying a ftec but now i dont know…..for those who thing hp its a great computer….i have a notebook hp pavilion zd7000 a lot of problems with the power source conection in the notebook and returned man times to the store and they just chane the cables but the problem repeats again and again…..im from mexico and bought the hp directly in the usa so i think the best its to get a good warranty……i want to change it any one knows where can i get great deals for notebooks in kl or kunatan???

Actually Ftech using MSI technology and is totally taiwan same as
so many others model…like ASUS,ACER even DELL n IBM using
some third party component to made their laptop…so done be surprise
if some of the laptop received is screw-up also…it all depent on quality
control and packaging shipping doesn’t help much…ha!..ha!…ha!

My advice is, there are others better quality and reasonable price product, you should go for Dell, HP or IBM. They provide good customer support and warranty. Don’t because of saving RM500-RM1000, get a low quality laptop which can’t use more than 3 years.

If you said my friend was 1 of 100 unlucky person, but he changed 2 brand new laptop also have the same problem 🙂

it’s ME!

i heard a notebook dealer said that FTec is an gred 3 which is the lowest gred for notebook. Gred 2 notebook are Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, Compaq etc. Then gred 1 include Toshiba and also Fujitsu which is the most reliable one.

When I was shopping for a laptop, I actually asked strangers sitting in Starbucks who were using DELL their opinion on their laptops. Mostly negative.

My boss has used Sony, Fujitsu and Dell claimed that Fujistu is the most stable among all.

I have no problems with my current Acer 🙂 Just add RAM.

i’m using ftech too… 8260 model… so far so good (almost 1/2 year)… never faced any single problems…. using very frequently… for games, architechering, designing and engeneering…. event line-in parrallel with other supporting machineries…. so far running very well…. i dont think so it suck… sometimes it back to how we handle a things… if it is a notebook, threat it like a notebook; not like a racing car….

hey..i totally agree with al that it can suck . this FTEC (Female Thong Enclose C*nt ) is shitty product… not reliable at all couse… no good support from the tech as well .. i got a w2 series and it f*** up . some buttons not functioning proply, can go wirless , screen sometimes go from bright to not so bright in sec, stickers getting lose out, the layout not level( can see the top left of key board sink down lower ” don’t tell me thats hi-tec design” ) well all this discover in f**kin 24hr… man .. i hate this .. do u guys know that .. there isan’t much factory base in Taiwan. there is a larger land across the sea… mm…

Hey, guy… think RM2500 can get a new good notebook, think again…
cutting corner is one of the thing happen in budget system even for desktop. That why sometimes its better to asemble your own desktop
system. But unfortunately notebook is much more difficult to asemble
your own. Only few company like Aopen offer custom notebook.
But there is hope for the penny pinching buyer, try refurbished notebook,
I’m using one from DELL & its more than six months already and
yes its used & tired with some fault like stuck keys…but its cover with
warranty & changed, now working in good order. u guys malike it…

I bought a W2 Notebook in May 2005 and I want to express how dissastified I am with the quality of the computer.

The computer USB port and card reader was malfunction (can’t function at all) after only five months of using the computer.

I have to send the computer for repair through Sen Heng Electric (Kota Bahru) and it took one month to get it repaired.

Then in March 2006, the whole computer system was down and could not be started at all. I have to resend again through Sen Heng Electric and again it took more than one month to get it done.

And now, yet another problem crop up. The keyboard was spoilt. And I need to send back to Sen Heng again soon.

I have learnt my lesson, albeit an expensive one (RM 38++) and with the time lost in sending for repair, I shall never trust the FTEC billboards and ads and I shall never buy another unit again.

I am truly disappointed. I shall also never recommend it to my friends, and I should have listened to advice from this blog.

I have really wasted a lot of my precious time that cause the delay in my master degree dissertation / thesis completion because I have to send the computer back for service. Anyway, thanks to FTEC for the precious lesson.

Ftec not really that suck. It depends on your luck as well my friend. You need to know that not every brand is 100% sure function properly. Do you believe that IBM also having this kind of problem? I work as a technician, i am the one who do the testing for every notebook that are ready to send out. My company sell Acer, HP, IBM, Dell, Toshiba & etc. And i do help customer to do warranty claim. Dont tell me IBM HP notebook are too good until they are “Unbreakable”. For warranty claim period, it depends on the services center as well. Well, IBM notebook took 1 month for warranty claim as well. And IBM, HP & etc, if no more warranty, do you know that how much it cost you for that? Imagine 1 LCD RM2000++, Motherboard RM1000++?? extend for 2nd & 3rd year warranty? it cost you few hundred.

my conclusion was that Ftec got it selling point, and for those who having problem with Ftec warranty claim, please make noise to Ftec warranty claim department or just “shot” some mail to Ftec, i dont think they will not take this case serious. Ftec is able to provide you with 3 years warranty, if their product if really that F*ck up, 3 years warranty is going to kill them. I can only say that those who having problem at the beginning is just those 1 out of 1000 users? If you need to complaint, the best way is to complaint to Ftec directly, if they not helping you, then it will be great for you post up here and i will help you to post this article to most of the forum i know.

Seng Heng? Maybe they are the one that delayed the warranty claim? normally i send my Ftec for warranty claim it took me 1-2weeks time. once i receive faulty Ftec notebook, we will arrange for sending over in the same day or next day. Imagine if IBM notebook warranty claim, and i put in my office store for 1 month, then after i month i decide to send over, do you think that IBM can make the warranty claim in 1 month? Think about it.

Choose your favourite brand and do some survey as well. Some information from the internet might not be true and you will need to make the final decision.

hey guys!
I am thinking about buying laptop. and found one (from Siemens) for only 3000 hong kong dollars(about 380 US dollars) with fair performance: 256 mb ram, 700Mhz processor, 40Gb harddrive, 3 usb ports.

Im searching for a computer with about this performance(its enough for me) and wich wont break down totally within 2 years( like a cracked motherboard or a messy display)
the positive is the price and the performance
the negative is the price also(it could be cheap crap), and the brand. Never heard of siemens being a quality computer brand. Nowadays theyre called fujitsi-siemens.

any opinions?

Until now its ok. I use very hard and core in contruction line.(Site). berdebu je. Tapi ok je. jatuh 2 kali,tapi tak tinggi. screen ok. dah hampir sethun, still tak ketinggalan. important, how we use. Remember, ini Laptop (note book), bukan buku 3 lima. Boleh main campak-campak. and almost do the maintenance(Normal) sacndisk,arrangment.

im just bought w2 series sx62i securebook a few weeks ago (less than a month the cost about RM5500) But now i have a problem to this thing such as shut down automaticly and always try to enter the internet line. Even though with 1 GB Ram like 256MB Ram. Suddenly when im using cd, it was stop/hang. Sometime im feel give up nothingless to throw it out. Let w2 use their wings for fly. Cant u pls reply and advice me what happen to my l/top. RM5500 is to much. I didnt see this comment pages before, off cause i will change my plan to but fujitsu or sony.

FTEC services are the stupid servicer in the world… i dah kena dah, beli ftec 2 hari je kong… hantar service tapi dorang kata virus sudah masuk buat 3 kali cleaning kena cas rm75 x 3… rupanya HDD kong, aku tukar HDD sendiri trus ok… rugi tahap babun pakai FTEC… jangan beli FTEC sbb FTEC tak pandai service cuma pandai jual jer…

the laptop isnt the problem i presume, but i am very sure that the online service does not meet any quality control requirement.

i am a free lance pc servicer and i am unable to find the driver required for my clients FTEC’s book.

both of my client and i was very dissapointed with the mentality that FTECs’ employees.

continuing to support FTEC might be a very ambiguous consideration…

poor hanny still having 3 laptops from FTEC.. sell it all and get a better one like HP compaq.

i bought ftec rm2999 last 2 weeks, after 1 week i used it, then i cannot enter the window, when i tried to install new os, it hang.. then, i sent back to the shop and they said the HDD crashed. oh i wonder ho long can i sed thi notebook untill it make more problem.. haaa.. so dissapointed when i know so many doesnt recommend it.. hate it maaa

i have the realy same experience with your friend,my screen become damm black n blank.exectly a second after i on the suck button,i though myb nopower coz its new.but after one day charge the power,n i on again,the bluddy laptop still having the same problem.i coz dirrect to ftec in pj,i ask them to give me a new set.i get my new set.and now u now u know what,,,,,,?,the suck laptop also having a problem.my baterry lock already broken,n the big issue is,they are tipu me,u know why?my harddisk is only 2 gb.fuck of them

hello all..i bought ftec notebook (W2 X3851) a few months ago. then last month, i noticed that i have to buy n convert windows office 2007 (trial version) to licensed version..huhuhu..then, i tried to install windows office 2007 on my own but failed. final resort, i changed win vista to xp (on my own…huhu..im only an english teacher.donno much about computer). the problem now is the webcam cannot be installed as i couldnt find the appropriate driver. been equiped with the installation CD driver (BisonCam) but still could NOT use it..can anyone help me with this prob?

emmm…soo far i’m having no prob at all used ftec laptop…..just lately window vista prob and got their solution already..must be the old version of ftec laptop makes them i mean ftec improved more on their laptop brand..sooo many series now..soooo latest and expensive doesnt mean its good sooo think b4 buy but as my side ftec not bring any prob to me at all sum more mine more advance than other international laptop brand…btw i play pc game all the time with my aptop and no prob also …anyway thts my experiences as ftec laptop user 🙂 cheerrrss~~~

to riz probably u hv to used other webcam device/driver tht suit with windows xp tht u used now.if i’m not mistake when u buy ftec laptop they include along the installation cd’s.try to open the cd’s folder u can see got 2 type installation..one for vista and other one for suit with ur window xp…

i also got one FUCKTEC laptop and i got 6 port for USB,and u know what?all of them was screwed up now.. i cant use the usb not even one port! damn! i dunno what to do,if i want to resell it im sure there’s will be no buyers.. if send it to computer services im sure it will costs me.. and now,i just keep it and hope i’ll get new laptop later.. i wish to get IBM or HP laptop.. ACER also good one..

i just bought ftec laptop at 1999myr at pc fair klcc around 2 weeks ago,when i check the laptop the widows not registerd yet and i dindnt find the microsoft original sticker to register,since i got the lucky draw from msoft so iv been thinking i might be real original,but i also cursed it as failuredtec.haha.then the next morning i comebck and ask the problem la,they solved it and i just be a realy stupid girl ask everything from a to z.since it does gav me 3years warranty i just want to use it as maximum as i can.i bought it bcoz they giv me lots of freegift and its cheap.if ii hav 4k im for sure not buying these unrecognized brand,just buy sony.im using it 24/day sometimes for download ofcourse.for ur information,since u r using malaysia product its realy sensitive,i tried to plug in the 80g external harddisc it it goes hanged,but when u off the xtrnal its ok again.and when i run gogle earth the screen goes blue,then ijust uninstall the program.it goes ok again.im not using it for game and varities so i think it ok for another 3years.even acer user will always go for formatting thier laptop.the brand does look sucks,i found the brand sticker getting peel out,but for rm1999 laptop with freegifts and 3years warranty,im not expecting too much,even i will going to thier opening branch at lowyat this 22dis07 to mumble about my nero.for me i never thrust this product,i bought it bcoz its cheap,i dont even know this ftec is a produck,i thought its kind of things like intell.but its my thing now,so i hav to take care of it

FYI guys.. the local laptop such as FTEC, BlueDot, Natsys are came from China. The ‘barebone’ of those brand are exactly the same.. it is OEM.. they buy big bulk ‘barebone’ from China, & the put their brand name on it..even the sticker also or emblem are cheap quality.. trust me.. it’s true.. but the processor, ram & HDD ofcoz it is well known brand.. it is cheap, but not worthy.. well, these local brand will never be the same like HP or Dell…

i m so pretty awake by this statement. i m also a technician and i been working for more than 10 years, i am wondering his technical skill in hardware implementation by his statement,
i own 4 ibm laptop b4 and i shall say i m very satisfy with the service they provide, few cases, and i stay in ipoh, i got my dvd writer claim by nation wide express direct call in to kl 1800 toll free numbers and my new drive arrive one to one swap within 24 hours or 36 as i cant recall much, the new Lenovo, a buy out from china giant doesnt change their quality, in fact if u dare to open up the whole laptop inside, u will find hundred of quality chips and transistor that built inside. even the screw they use to close the laptop is made of demagnetised metal to avoid current flow or short circuit.
full manual to dissemble the whole laptop is in their website, i never seen any else brand that had this. the latest model they had got roll cage, believe it or not , such a beautiful engineering
back to ftec, it made by large clevo taiwan company, moulding plastic that last not more than 4 to 5 years and it will crack, ask me really, i open a lot lot crack old clevo notebook before, and their most popular one is the long tube battery that powered pentium3 500mhz (kwsp scheme laptop). that where their money came from.
do tell me one thing . go to ftec.com and u will see 30 pages new model laptop for sale, that 30 model, they cant even keep up with what model they sell, my customer just bought one model two month ago and it dont even listed in the driver support there, in the end i got to hybrid match all the driver, i could do it, trust me it not easy. and by time 2008, i have made survey and i notice branded notebook price even cheaper than ftec model, u guys should open more eye instead of the advertisement gimmick. below are my grade for brand of notebook

alienware- not much in malaysia know abt it, expensive BTO by US. go watch die hard4, u seen them taking around

panasonic- the best and tough- expensive

fujitsu-beautiful and tough too-mild price now, internal system diagram very systematically

ibm-lenovo- ugly look but the inner really beauty- made of gold- never regret owning it but some model have battery issue(thanks to sony cell)

toshiba- recent drop grade as price fighting, most favorite among chinese community,mild price but sucks slow rate download for driver support, headache model finding too, overall a good notebook to own for years

hp- upper class of compaq- truly, it may last 3 year so on

compaq- beautiful but…recent model very dissapointing, hardware always causing failure especially grade b mobo (most headache if u have amd turion, god bless ur heat issue)

sony vaio- beautiful slim- expensive- worst battery life i ever seen-many cases below one year “kong” and .. u will never find driver online, so god bless u, unless u pro in hybrid finding driver

twinhead- still better than acer but also lack of online support and also another aka clevo BTO

acer- asia most favorite as cheap- not seeing cheaper recently as compare to other-grade b mobo with non solid casing(easy to crack)- battery very cheap though(good)-easily smash when lightning strike-the best charging adaptor they had as it never gone wrong most of the time haha

that the most brand i touch everyday.. there no perfection either, but ftec is really a no no

Anybody can tell me what grade is Asus computer A,B,C or recycle bin type?

I had Sony VAIO Cr22, i bought last dec 2007, but i decide to but another mini notebook ASUS was launch last year for my wfe. Small notebook ASUS eeePc, 7″ lcd screen (RM1xxx) run Windows XP. The spec almost same with small notebook fujitsu 7″ lcd screen, but the prise 1/3 of fujitsu notebook (RM4xxx).

Pro:
1) I buy this laptop becouse its the cheapest compare to fujitsu (RM4xxx) & sony (RM7xxx) mini laptop. 2) It small and light (+- 900g) and easy to carry, can put in small bag or handbag. Con:
1) Its cheap becouse made by taiwan company (but most product made by asus is hardware, mainboard@motherboard, most laptop computer used asus motherboard).
2) The lcd screen not very bright and the battery very fast to leak,cooling system not very good, the heat can feel on the keypad.
3) It used SSD (SSD more stable compare to HDD) but the space very minimum only 4Gb, 2.x Gb for Win XP only left 1.x Gb for other applications.
4) Overall finished (keypad number/text and body *plastic* not very attractive).
5) I dont know how relaible that computer??? but till now still ok & not giving any problem.

Note:
I still give 5 stars to IBM, becouse my 1st Laptop is 2nd hand (refurbish) note book from USA- IBM Thinkpad 600E (Alloy@Aluminium casing), Pentium II 366 Mhz 6GB HDD 128 Byte RAM .
I bought in 2005 (6 years old laptop-made 1999) and used for 3 years (now already 9 yrs old) laptop still OK no PROBLEM at all. It run Windows XP without any problem and very stable but slow for Big application, its ok for my children for typing Assigmment and small education application.

But:
When IBM + Legent (China Company) its Lenovo brand not attractive as original IBM. Lenovo body finished look very *plastic like*, no more like IBM.

The movement of the mouse and the function and also the song was stucking there when using….
then i went for the FTec centre asked them.
But when I look on their face, seem like already normal. I think MANY or ALL people got this problem!

accidentally found out ur blog when i seach for FTEC laptop
I”m using 8260 series since 2005 ( bought it from PC fair)
It has been almost 3 yrs. Nothing happen. Yes. Is nothing.
and i’m still using it. I use it to play online games, movie, and lots more.
I on it almost 10 hrs a day, and is still nice and handy.
Don think is sucks. Mayb ur fren is jus a unlucky 1.
Think is worth to bought it.
My fren who use my laptop even say dat it is much more faster then his brand new ACER laptop
I think is depends. I never undergo any service mentainance since i bougt it.
So, is good

i bought ftec laptop a month ago…juz use it for 2 weeks, cannot log into vista…brought it to service centre and they say need to reformat…they say 1 day can fix…2 days later i called to ask if my laptop is ready but they say the hard disk is broken so hav to replace for new one,meaning hav to claim from warranty and wait another 1 week…a week later,called them again they say warranty hav to wait 3 weeks…damn.. the initial problem was software n i donno how my hard disk can be broken as i handle the laptop with care and i’ve just used it 2 weeks…and why hav to wait that long for warranty??my laptop kena tahan in service centre is longer than i’m using it..
so,ftec service is so lame…3 years warranty,so wat?the product also low quality…technician,the worst…small problem, they can make it into faulty hardware…huh!!

Thank god i had ‘accidentally’ found this web site. I am planning to buy laptop and ftech was in my list. I will certainly not considering it after reading all the comments from you all. It is true that not all untis are with problems but looking at the issues brought up in year 2005 and is still happening in 2007 and 2008. That, at least to me, ftech does not seems to have learn from their past experience in improving thier product.

yes they suck. some of their models have inadequate cooling and cause modem/wireless/touchpad to fail after long periods of use. their models all come from china. u should see the OEM boxes they throw out and then repackage in their FTEC box 🙂 assembly time of a barebones notebook by 1 technician is between 5mins-20mins (depending on model) and last i checked, no burn-in tests are done 0_0. You could get D.O.A parts in your notebook… not good. Check behind ur notebook for the OEM model and good luck in getting the drivers u need. W2 X3851 – well let’s just say it is not known as that in China 😉

Sorry but F-Tec lap top’s SUCK. Their customer service is just as bad and anyone who say’s they never had problems should count themselves LUCKY. I made a big big mistake in purchasing an F-TEC and I am still stuck with the piece-of-shit I bought in 2004.

It has no bloody value and I have been trying to get rid of it since the day I bought it. The CD Rom drive was giving problems from the day I bought it and brought the lap top back 2-3 times within the first year and kept getting told I was downloading too many files that infected my pc with a virus which wasn’t the case because I only used the lap top for presentations.

The other STUPID problem with my f-tec was the inability to LOCK the mouse pad when once is typing. I type fast and you can imagine how fustrating it is trying to type a document with NO lock for the mouse pad.

Anyone who says f-tec is good value for your money has probably had their head in the sand for far too long and are not aware of the problems this brand has with its products.
